| portfolios |
[Saturday March 22nd, 2008] |
first of all, have any GTA students mailed their portfolios? (any program--the 200km rule is universal). i live in barrie but it's the last 2-3 weeks of school and the buses don't run early enough for me to get a go train and get to george brown for 9am.
second of all, where would i sign up for a portfolio interview online for graphic design? i haven't received letters or emails yet requesting portfolios from any school i applied to, but i have the option online to sign up for an interview at other schools. interesting!

Has the weather got you down? Are you looking to beat the winter blahs? Do you love the news? Are you just looking to get involved with something?
Come volunteer for The Real News.
The Real News is an independent, non-profit, video-based news organization that will be financed through monthly donations from viewers across the globe. It will not bend to corporate or government pressure, which will give its journalists the freedom to think and act independently and courageously.
With its growing coverage, from the lead-up to the U.S. presidential elections, to Venezuela, to the Middle East, it is well on its way to having a 24-hour web based news service and an hour-long daily show for television, with the main offices being right here in the heart of Toronto.
Of course, none of this would be possible without volunteers, who have been vital to The Real News since its creation.
Come join a growing organization that could put your skills to good use. We are looking for volunteers to come in at least once a week, for four hours in the morning or the afternoon.
If you’re interested in journalism, production, development, web development, social media and communications, translation, or just want to get involved, this could be the place for you.
If interested, contact ninaa@therealnews.com. Please include a resumé or short blurb about yourself.

| x-posted - ladyfest toronto 2008 volunteering! |
[Wednesday February 27th, 2008] |
Ladyfest Toronto 2008 Call out for volunteers
Ladyfest Toronto is a four-day arts, culture and music festival. We are a non-profit, grassroots, do-it-yourself collective who seek to promote urban feminism. We work from a framework that is pro-feminist, trans-inclusive, pro-diversity and anti-oppressive. We seek to build community among Toronto's feminist businesses, artists, activists and academic community. We believe that art is a powerful form of resistance and hope to incite dialogue about contemporary feminist issues in our city. We will be providing a venue for women to express themselves and showcase their work free of sexism, classism, racism, and homophobia; as well as other forms of oppression.
We believe that politics can be fun and hope to facilitate political action and create tools for feminist networking at our annual event. We will proudly showcase the talent and actions of both local and international women. Ultimately, we hope Ladyfest Toronoto inspires women everywhere to organize themselves and create similar spaces that allow women's creative works to be seen and heard, as other Ladyfest's have for us.
Ladyfest Toronto offers something for everyone, whether you are identify as a feminist or are curious about the ideas of it.
This year’s festival will be taking place Thursday, September 18th to Sunday, September 21st 2008.

About Ladyfest Toronto
Ladyfest Toronto is a grassroots, do-it-yourself community-based organization designed by women and for everyone. We seek to promote urban feminism and showcase, celebrate and encourage talents of women. Ladyfest Toronto 2007 continues the Ladyfest tradition of making feminism fun and breaking down barriers for women artists.
History of Ladyfest The festival began in August of 2000 in Olympia, Washington, the home of the Riot-Grrrl movement. It was a woman-organized and woman-run event that featured performances by bands, spoken word artists, authors, and visual artists. It also included workshops, panel discussions, and dance parties. The 2000 festival had a strong momentum, inspiring women from around the globe to organize similar festivals in their own communities.
In the last seven years Ladyfests have taken place in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Canadian cities that have hosted Ladyfests include Vancouver, Guelph, Toronto, Halifax and Ottawa.
